Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC) presents the highly anticipated New York premiere of "King James," a gripping play written by Pulitzer Prize finalist Rajiv Joseph and directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon. The production, a collaboration between Steppenwolf Theatre Company and Center Theatre Group, opens tonight, Tuesday, May 16, at MTC at New York City Center - Stage I.

The play centers around the charismatic "King" LeBron James, one of the greatest NBA players of all time, and his profound impact on the city of Cleveland. Rajiv Joseph's funny and emotionally resonant script explores the unexpected friendship between two men whose lives are intertwined with their shared admiration for James. Prepare for an adrenaline-fueled journey that delves into the power of human connection.

Starring Glenn Davis, known for his remarkable performances in "Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo" and "Downstate," and Chris Perfetti, a talented actor seen in the award-winning ABC comedy series "Abbott Elementary," the cast brings depth and authenticity to their roles. Additionally, Khloe Janel adds to the production's dynamic as the DJ.

Under the creative team's guidance, including Todd Rosenthal (scenic design), Samantha C. Jones (costume design), Lee Fiskness (lighting design), Rob Milburn & Michael Bodeen (sound design), Gigi Buffington (vocal coach), Richard Hodge (production stage manager), JC Clementz (casting), Caparelliotis Casting & Kelly Gillespie (additional casting), "King James" promises to deliver a visually stunning and emotionally captivating theatrical experience.

To enhance the audience's connection with the show, Manhattan Theatre Club offers free Beyond the Stage content, including a post-show discussion on "The Culture of Fandom" during Black Theatre Night on Thursday, May 18. Join the conversation with esteemed speakers, Jarrod Barnes and David A. Hollander, moderated by Jas Dhami, and gain insights into the play's themes. Additionally, MTC provides a podcast episode featuring an interview with playwright Rajiv Joseph and a curated playlist inspired by the show at MTCBeyondtheStage.com.
