DEATH BECOMES HER: Broadway’s Drop-Dead Hilarious New Musical Opens Tonight at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre

Get ready for an unforgettable night at the theatre as DEATH BECOMES HER, the newest musical sensation on Broadway, officially opens tonight, Thursday, November 21, 2024, at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre (205 West 46th Street). This darkly comedic, over-the-top musical is based on the hit 1992 Universal Pictures film and promises to bring the same fierce energy and sharp wit to the stage.

Starring Tony Award nominees Megan Hilty (Wicked, Smash), Jennifer Simard (Company, Disaster!), Christopher Sieber (Spamalot, Company), and Grammy® Award winner Michelle Williams (Destiny’s Child, Chicago), DEATH BECOMES HER tells the hilarious and outrageous tale of two women battling for youth, beauty, and revenge. With the addition of a talented ensemble cast including Taurean Everett (Moulin Rouge!) and Josh Lamon (The Prom), the stage is set for a Broadway spectacle that will leave audiences laughing and gasping.

Directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Christopher Gattelli, DEATH BECOMES HER features a book by Marco Pennette and an original score by Julia Mattison and Noel Carey. The creative team includes scenic design by two-time Tony Award winner Derek McLane, costume design by Tony Award winner Paul Tazewell, lighting design by Tony Award winner Justin Townsend, and sound design by Tony Award winner Peter Hylenski. The show’s stunning visuals are complemented by hair and wig design by two-time Drama Desk Award winner Charles LaPointe and makeup design by Joe Dulude II.

The story revolves around two lifelong frenemies: Madeline Ashton, the vain actress who believes she’s the most beautiful woman alive (played by Hilty), and Helen Sharp, the long-suffering author who has spent her life in Madeline’s shadow (Simard). When Madeline steals Helen’s fiancé, it sets off a series of events that leads them both to a mysterious woman, Viola Van Horn (Williams), who offers them a magical potion that restores their youth and beauty. However, their eternal grudge is far from over, and their new era of life (and death) becomes a fantastically twisted tale of jealousy, revenge, and the pursuit of immortality.

In addition to the standard ticket sales, DEATH BECOMES HER is offering Broadway’s tech-savvy fans a chance to score discounted tickets through its Digital Lottery. For just $40 per ticket, a limited number of tickets will be available for each performance. The lottery opens the day before each show at 7am (ET) and closes at 2pm (ET), with winners notified shortly after and given 60 minutes to claim their tickets.

For those hoping for even more savings, DEATH BECOMES HER is also offering $35 Rush Tickets, available in person at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre box office starting at 10am (Monday – Saturday), with a limit of two tickets per person, subject to availability.

Following its critically acclaimed limited engagement in Chicago at the Cadillac Palace Theatre, DEATH BECOMES HER is now ready to enchant Broadway with its outrageous humor, captivating performances, and show-stopping numbers. The production is overseen by Universal Theatrical Group, led by Jimmy Horowitz and Lowe Cunningham.

Based on the iconic 1992 film written by David Koepp and Martin Donovan and directed by Robert Zemeckis, this musical version of DEATH BECOMES HER is sure to leave audiences howling with laughter and applause. Don’t miss out on the chance to experience this theatrical masterpiece at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
