Broadway is set to sizzle with the rhythms of Havana as “Buena Vista Social Club™” prepares to open at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in 2025. Featuring the legendary music of Cuba’s golden age, this highly anticipated musical promises an unforgettable journey into the heart of Cuban culture, telling a story of survival, second chances, and the transformative power of music.
The production, which begins previews on February 21, 2025, and officially opens March 19, 2025, boasts an extraordinary creative team and cast, including Grammy-winning musicians and Broadway veterans.
A Star-Studded Creative Team
The show is helmed by Marco Ramirez, known for his Drama Desk-winning The Royale, with direction by Tony-nominated Saheem Ali (Fat Ham) and choreography by Patricia Delgado and Justin Peck, the Tony Award-winning choreographer behind Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story. The musical draws inspiration from the iconic Buena Vista Social Club album, which became a global phenomenon in 1997, earning a Grammy Award and revitalizing Cuba’s rich musical legacy.
The band, under the guidance of Marco Paguia (Music Director) and Juan de Marcos González (Music Consultant), features Afro-Cuban music legends and rising stars. With orchestration and arrangements by Marco Paguia and additional contributions from Javier Diaz and David Oquendo, the production stays true to the album’s timeless sound.

The fully assembled cast includes Justin Cunningham (Juan de Marcos), Natalie Venetia Belcon (Omara), and Mel Semé (Ibrahim), alongside a dynamic ensemble of seasoned performers and newcomers. The musical follows the legendary Cuban musicians whose stories shaped the iconic album, blending vibrant performances with the intimacy of their personal journeys.

At the heart of the musical lies the evocative track “Chan Chan,” described as “soul-stirring” by Music Consultant Juan de Marcos González:

The musical’s Broadway debut follows a successful world premiere at Atlantic Theater Company in 2023, where it earned nominations for Best Musical from the Drama League and Outer Critics Circle.
