A First Look at Broadway’s Dead Outlaw: The Dark, Hilarious Ride You Didn’t See Coming

Dead Outlaw has officially arrived on Broadway—and it’s bringing one of the wildest true stories ever told to the Longacre Theatre.

Now in previews, the new musical from Tony Award winners David Yazbek and Itamar Moses, co-written with Erik Della Penna and directed by David Cromer, began performances on Saturday, April 12. The show officially opens on Sunday, April 27, at the Longacre Theatre (220 W. 48th Street).

A twisted, genre-defying story inspired by the bizarre posthumous journey of real-life outlaw Elmer McCurdy, Dead Outlaw explores legacy, failure, and the spectacle of fame—with sharp wit and bourbon-drenched flair.

The Cast
The Broadway cast includes the entire Off-Broadway company, led by:

  • Andrew Durand as Elmer McCurdy

  • Jeb Brown as Band Leader/Jarrett

  • Eddie Cooper as Coroner Johnson

  • Dashiell Eaves, Julia Knitel, Ken Marks, Trent Saunders, and Thom Sesma
Understudies include Emily Fink, Justin Gregory Lopez, Noah Plomgren, Max Sangerman, Scott Stangland, and Graham Stevens

In-Person Rush Tickets Now Available
Beginning today, general rush tickets are available at the Longacre Theatre box office. Tickets are $40 each, available day-of (subject to availability), and limited to two per person.

A Hit Before It Hit Broadway
Originally produced Off-Broadway by Audible Theater, Dead Outlaw swept the 2024 awards season—winning Best Musical at the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, New York Drama Critics’ Circle, and Off-Broadway Alliance Awards.

Critics are already calling it a standout of the year.

The New York Times hails it as “Brilliant and gorgeous.”

New York Magazine calls it “A raucous, rip-roaring, bourbon-and-arsenic-tinged musical.”

And The Wrap? “An instant classic!”
