Production Photos Released for Broadway’s Dead Outlaw, Officially Opening Today at the Longacre Theatre

Producers Lia Vollack Productions and Sonia Friedman Productions have released production photos for Dead Outlaw, the highly anticipated new musical that officially opens today, Sunday, April 27, at the Longacre Theatre (220 W 48th St.).

With a book by Tony Award winner Itamar Moses (The Band’s Visit) and music and lyrics by Tony winner David Yazbek (The Band’s Visit, Tootsie) and Erik Della Penna, Dead Outlaw is directed by Tony winner David Cromer (The Band’s Visit).

The Broadway cast, reprising their acclaimed Off-Broadway performances, includes Andrew Durand as Elmer McCurdy, Jeb Brown as Band Leader/Jarrett, Eddie Cooper as Coroner Johnson, Dashiell Eaves as Louis/Charles Patterson, Julia Knitel as Helen/Maggie, Ken Marks as George, Trent Saunders as Andy Payne, and Thom Sesma as Coroner Noguchi. Understudies are Emily Fink, Justin Gregory Lopez, Noah Plomgren, Max Sangerman, Scott Stangland, and Graham Stevens.

Tickets are available at www.deadoutlawmusical.com, through Telecharge at www.telecharge.com, or by calling 212-239-6200 or 800-447-7400.

Following its sold-out Off-Broadway run produced by Audible Theater, Dead Outlaw emerged as a major force during the 2024 awards season, winning “Best Musical” honors from the Drama Desk Awards, New York Drama Critics’ Circle Awards, Outer Critics Circle Awards, and the Off-Broadway Alliance Awards.

The creative team features Ani Taj (choreography), Arnulfo Maldonado (scenic design), Sarah Laux (costume design), Heather Gilbert (lighting design), Kai Harada (sound design), J. Jared Janas (hair and wig design), Dean Sharenow (music supervision), Rebekah Bruce (music direction), and orchestrations by Yazbek, Della Penna, and Sharenow. Casting is by Tara Rubin Casting/Peter Van Dam, CSA, with Cynthia Cahill serving as production stage manager.

Dead Outlaw tells the darkly hilarious and wildly inventive true story of Elmer McCurdy, an outlaw whose life after death proved even more colorful than his time among the living. Exploring themes of fame, failure, and legacy, the musical finds humor and poignancy in a life — and afterlife — lived to the fullest.

Critics have already embraced Dead Outlaw as one of the season’s standouts. The New York Times called it “brilliant and gorgeous,” while New York Magazine hailed it as “a raucous, rip-roaring, bourbon-and-arsenic-tinged musical.” The Wrap described it as “an instant classic,” and the New York Sun praised it as “as much fun as any respectable grownup is likely to have in public.”
