PBS SoCal Celebrates Pati Jinich and the Power of Food, Culture, and Connection
Our Los Angeles correspondent, Venus DeMilo Thomas, and photographer Jesús Carreño were on the ground for a special evening hosted by PBS SoCal in celebration of PATI JINICH EXPLORES PANAMERICANA, the newest series from the Emmy®-nominated and James Beard Award-winning chef, author, and cultural storyteller Pati Jinich.
Held as both a press junket and a reception, the event welcomed members of the media and invited guests for an intimate conversation with Jinich, who was joined by PBS SoCal’s President and CEO Andy Russell, Vice President of Member Engagement and Strategy Maura Daly Phinney, and other community and industry leaders.
The star of the evening, Jinich, shared her passion for building bridges between people, countries, and cultures through food and shared stories. Her latest series is a bold extension of that mission.
PATI JINICH EXPLORES PANAMERICANA takes viewers on a sweeping journey along the iconic Pan-American Highway, stretching from Alaska to Argentina. Through lush visuals, rich storytelling, and intimate encounters, Jinich traces the threads that connect diverse communities across the Americas.
This isn’t your average food show. In this three-part series, viewers will travel from the icy Arctic, where Pati dog sleds and explores groundbreaking scientific work, to the culinary crossroads of Juneau, where Filipino and Indigenous flavors come together. Along the way, we meet salmon fishers in Halibut Cove, glassblowers in Whitehorse, and Alberta cowboys whose lives echo the spirit of Montana and Texas. Each episode is an invitation to reflect on identity, migration, resilience, and the shared heritage of the Western Hemisphere.
Catch PATI JINICH EXPLORES PANAMERICANA on PBS SoCal, airing Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on April 29, May 6, and May 13. Episodes will also be available to stream on the free PBS app.
