‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Draws Larger Audience as ‘Mission: Impossible’ Tops V.O.D.


Streaming audiences turned out in force last week for the return of HBO Max’s Peacemaker and the digital debut of Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, according to viewership data from Samba TV.


The Season 2 premiere of Peacemaker, a spin-off from the DC Extended Universe directed by James Gunn, was watched by 709,000 U.S. households in its first three days of release. That represents a 22 percent increase over the 584,000 households that streamed the Season 1 finale during the same time frame, a sign that the offbeat superhero series has built momentum since its 2022 debut. Samba also noted that millennial households ages 35 to 44 were more likely to tune in than the average subscriber.


On video-on-demand platforms, Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning easily outpaced competing releases. Within five days of its arrival, the Tom Cruise action film reached 618,000 households — significantly more than recent titles such as Thunderbolts (449,000), 28 Years Later (360,000), and Final Destination: Bloodlines (268,000).


The film’s audience skewed more diverse than average, with above-average viewership among Black, Hispanic, and Asian households, Samba found.


The results highlight how both established franchises and idiosyncratic comic-book fare continue to capture attention in the fragmented streaming marketplace.
