BOOKCON ANNOUNCES FOX 2000’S THE HATE U GIVE PANEL WITH ACTRESS AMANDLA STENBERG, AUTHOR ANGIE THOMAS, AND DIRECTOR GEORGE TILLMAN JR.,

BookCon, the ultimate fan event where storytelling and pop culture collide, today announced that actress Amandla Stenberg (The Hunger Games, Everything, Everything), star of Fox 2000’s The Hate U Give, will take the stage with author Angie Thomas and director George Tillman Jr. (Soul Food, Men of Honor) to discuss the upcoming film and the bestselling novel that inspired it. BookCon attendees will also see an advance look at footage from the highly anticipated film.

Taking place on Sunday, June 3 at 3:45 PM on the Main Stage, Amandla Stenberg, author Angie Thomas, and director George Tillman Jr. will discuss the upcoming film adaptation of the bestselling book before its theatrical release in October before premiering the first look at footage from the film.

Fox’s The Hate U Give is based on the bestselling novel by Angie Thomas of the same title. Thomas’ searing debut about an ordinary girl in extraordinary circumstances addresses issues of racism and police violence with intelligence, heart, and unflinching honesty. Starr Carter is constantly switching between two worlds: the poor, mostly black, neighborhood where she lives and the rich, mostly white, prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer.  Now, facing pressures from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what’s right. The Hate U Give is based on the critically acclaimed New York Times bestseller by Angie Thomas and stars Amandla Stenberg as Starr, with Russell Hornsby, Regina Hall, Common, Anthony Mackie and Issa Rae.

Amandla Stenberg will also take the BookCon stage on Saturday, June 2 at 3:30 PM in the Goodreads Meet Up Room, where she will talk with bestselling author Alexandra Bracken about taking on the starring role of Ruby in the upcoming film adaptation of The Darkest Minds before it hits theatres on August 3rd.
