The Multicultural Media & Correspondents Association (MMCA), COMEDIC DUO SHERRI SHEPHERD AND KYM WHITLEY TO HOST 5th ANNUAL MULTICULTURAL MEDIA CORRESPONDENTS VIRTUAL EVENT ON NOVEMBER 11

The Multicultural Media & Correspondents Association (MMCA), an advocacy organization leading a national call-to-action to increase media diversity, announced today that Sherri Shepherd and Kym Whitley will host the 5th Annual Multicultural Media Correspondents Dinner (MMCDTM), which this year will be held as a virtual media diversity awards ceremony on Wednesday, November 11, 2020.  Aida Rodriguez will return to provide her heralded comedic relief.  The event will also feature a VIP Cocktail reception complete with cocktail kits and a celebrity bartender in a virtual event room.

The MMCDTM is an exclusive, invitation-only gathering of media influencers, policymakers, executives, corporate and advocacy organization allies, and Hollywood VIPs to honor media industry legends and luminaries of color. This year’s honorees include Richard “Dick” Parsons, Lisa Ling, Senator Marco Rubio, Senator Jacky Rosen, Maria Hinojosa, Nikole Hannah-Jones, and Detavio Samuels.  The evening will underscore the ongoing call to action for greater media diversity and inclusion.

“At this critical time in our country, media diversity is more important than ever,” said actress and comedienne Kym Whitley. “I am thrilled to host the 5th Annual celebration of the MMCA and to support its tireless advocacy to ensure that all Americans are represented in the media. “

“With the MMCDTM, our vision of a powerful, collective, inclusive, and sustained effort to honor BIPOC media excellence and to increase diversity in media ownership and control is now a reality. We are beyond thrilled with the level of engagement and support the MMCDTM has received in just its fifth year,” said David Morgan, MMCA President.

Partners and sponsors are vocally championing the MMCDTM and pledging their continued support. "The Multicultural Media Correspondents Association Dinner and Symposium are the only events in Washington DC which bring together media stakeholders, government officials and influencers to not only celebrate diversity in media but also to have a genuinely bipartisan, multicultural and intergenerational discussion about how public policy can increase diverse representation in media. Comcast NBCUniversal is proud to partner with the MMCA in this effort,” said Antonio “Tony” Williams, Executive Director, Comcast NBCUniversal.

MMCA’s event partners include DC Office of Cable Television, Film, Music & Entertainment (OCTFME), National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), National Newspaper Publishers Associations (NNPA), Asian American Journalist Association (AAJA), National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters (NABOB), National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP), Multicultural Media Telecom and Internet Coalition (MMTC), and ALLvanza.

MMCA is a nonpartisan/nonprofit organization leading a call to action to increase media diversity.  In just its fifth year, MMCA has become a trusted convener and facilitator of thought leadership, resource and information sharing, and strategic engagement between multicultural media stakeholders, tech and media decision-makers, policymakers, and private entities committed to increasing the percentage of diverse media stakeholders and content. www.mmcadc.org; @mmcadc on all platforms.
