AAFCA Sets Date for 7th Annual TV Honors

The celebration of television excellence will return to the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in August.

The African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) has announced that its 7th Annual AAFCA TV Honors will take place on August 23 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, continuing a tradition that has grown into a major event on the television awards calendar.

Created to highlight excellence in television, the AAFCA TV Honors has become known for recognizing standout achievements in storytelling, performance, and representation. While many awards ceremonies tend to overlook work by and about people of color, the AAFCA event has carved out a space to uplift narratives that reflect the full spectrum of the African-American experience.

“The AAFCA TV Honors provides a platform to recognize the impactful narratives and performances that reflect the richness of the Black experience,” said Gil Robertson, the organization’s president and co-founder. “We are excited to once again celebrate the incredible talent and creativity that defines television today.”

The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, a landmark on Hollywood Boulevard since 1927, has hosted the ceremony in past years. With its Old Hollywood charm and historical significance, the venue offers a fitting backdrop for an evening that blends legacy with innovation.

Nominees and special honorees for this year’s event will be announced in the coming months, but past years have celebrated creators and performers from shows such as Abbott Elementary, Lovecraft Country, and Pose, alongside breakout newcomers making their mark on the industry.

Founded in 2003, AAFCA is the largest collective of Black film and television critics in the world. The organization’s mission includes advocating for greater diversity in entertainment and offering critical commentary on media from a Black cultural lens. In addition to the TV Honors, AAFCA hosts an annual film awards ceremony and a range of year-round programming supporting filmmakers and creatives.
