2026 Film Independent Spirit Awards Set for February 15 at Hollywood Palladium
The 2026 Film Independent Spirit Awards will take place on Sunday, February 15, at the historic Hollywood Palladium, Film Independent announced today. The move marks a new chapter for the annual celebration of bold, independent storytelling as the organization enters its fifth decade.
Now in its 41st year, the Spirit Awards serve as the signature fundraiser for Film Independent, a nonprofit arts organization that champions creative freedom and diversity in visual storytelling. The show will spotlight the best in independent film and television, continuing its legacy of honoring innovation, inclusivity, and artistic integrity.
“Following the celebration of 40 years of the Spirit Awards earlier this year, we are excited to have the opportunity to reimagine the Spirit Awards experience during a moment of tremendous growth and transformation for our organization,” said Brenda Robinson, Acting President of Film Independent. “We are proud to continue to be a beacon for the bold and resilient independent storytelling community and to honor excellence in storytelling in all its forms.”
The 2026 show relocates from its longtime home in Santa Monica, which is undergoing renovations, to the Hollywood Palladium—an iconic venue that first opened in 1940 and stands on the original Paramount Pictures lot.
“We're thrilled to bring the Spirit Awards to the historic Hollywood Palladium,” added Shawn Davis, Executive Producer of the awards. “This move represents our continued evolution while staying true to our roots of celebrating fearless independent voices in film and television.”
The 40th Spirit Awards, held February 22, 2025, were hosted by Saturday Night Live alum Aidy Bryant for the second consecutive year. That ceremony honored Anora with Best Feature, Sean Baker with Best Director, and Mikey Madison with Best Lead Performance. The hit series Baby Reindeer swept three categories, and Shōgun was named Best New Scripted Series.
Founded over four decades ago, Film Independent has long supported underrepresented storytellers through initiatives such as Artist Development labs, Project Involve, educational programs, and international cultural exchanges. It also hosts year-round screenings through Film Independent Presents.
Winners of the Spirit Awards are voted on by Film Independent Members.
