Apple TV+ Announces Five-Part Martin Scorsese Documentary Directed by Rebecca Miller

Apple TV+ is about to take viewers deep into the world of one of cinema’s most defining voices.

Today, the streaming platform announced Mr. Scorsese, a five-part documentary series directed by acclaimed filmmaker Rebecca Miller (She Came to Me, Personal Velocity). What began as a single film portrait evolved over five years into a sweeping multi-part series that offers an intimate look at the life and work of Martin Scorsese—a director who has shaped modern film for more than half a century.

“I am so grateful to have been given the artistic freedom and access to create a cinematic portrait of one of our greatest living artists,” Miller said in a statement. “His work and life are so vast and so compelling that the piece evolved from one to five parts over five years. Crafting this documentary alongside my longtime collaborators has been one of the defining experiences of my life as a filmmaker.”

With unrestricted access to Scorsese’s private archives, the series is anchored by in-depth conversations with the filmmaker himself and a wide array of never-before-seen interviews. Appearances include longtime collaborators and friends such as Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis, Mick Jagger, Sharon Stone, Jodie Foster, Margot Robbie, Cate Blanchett, Paul Schrader, Thelma Schoonmaker, Steven Spielberg, and more. His family—including his wife Helen Morris, children, and childhood friends—also contributes, adding personal depth to the professional legacy.

Mr. Scorsese traces the evolution of a master storyteller, beginning with his student films at NYU and continuing through to the present day. Themes of good and evil, morality, and the human condition are explored through the lens of his work—showing how his personal life experiences have informed a body of work that is both visionary and deeply personal.

The project is produced by Expanded Media and Round Films, in association with LBI Entertainment and Moxie Pictures. Executive producers include Miller, Damon Cardasis, Cindy Tolan, Rick Yorn, Christopher Donnelly, and Julie Yorn, with Ron Burkle producing. Robert Fernandez and Patrick Walmsley serve as co-executive producers.

Mr. Scorsese joins an impressive roster of Apple Original documentaries, including STILL: A Michael J. Fox Movie, Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, and STEVE! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces. Apple TV+ has been building a serious track record in nonfiction storytelling, offering nuanced, artist-driven work that pairs creative access with editorial rigor.

Launched in 2019, Apple TV+ is now available in over 100 countries, across more than a billion devices—from iPhones and iPads to PlayStations, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV. The platform has quickly earned a reputation for high-caliber originals, with its titles racking up 569 award wins and more than 2,600 nominations, including the Oscar-winning CODA and the Emmy-dominating Ted Lasso.

Mr. Scorsese is expected to debut later this year.
