Bad Bunny, Tainy, and Maluma Celebrate Stillz’s Directorial Debut Barrio Triste at New York Film Festival

Fresh off hosting Saturday Night Live, Grammy Award-winning artist Bad Bunny joined longtime collaborator Tainy for the New York Film Festival screening of Barrio Triste on Sunday, October 5, at the Walter Reade Theater.

The film—marking the feature directorial debut of Grammy-nominated director, photographer, and visual artist Stillz—has already made waves on the international circuit, following its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival and its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last month.

Best known for his striking visuals and music videos for Bad Bunny, Rosalía, and other major artists, Stillz now transitions to feature filmmaking with Barrio Triste, a bold exploration of identity, artistry, and the urban pulse that defines his visual language.

The previous evening, Latin Grammy Award-winning musician Maluma attended the New York premiere on Saturday, October 4, also at the Walter Reade Theater. He was joined by the film’s producers Esteban Zuluaga, Eric Kohn, and James Clauer, as well as editor Adam Robinson and Stillz himself.

Before both screenings, producer Eric Kohn delivered a short introduction on behalf of Stillz, setting the stage for the film’s New York debut. Following Saturday’s screening, Film at Lincoln Center Senior Programmer Tyler Wilson moderated a lively post-screening conversation with Kohn, Zuluaga, and Robinson, offering audiences deeper insight into the creative journey behind the film.

Barrio Triste was produced by Harmony Korine’s EDGLRD, James Clauer, Eric Kohn, and Esteban Zuluaga, solidifying a dynamic collaboration that bridges music, cinema, and visual art through the lens of Latin creativity.
