Inside the Rehearsal Room: 'Romy & Michele: The Musical '

Inside the Rehearsal Room: Laura Bell Bundy, Kara Lindsay, and Cast Bring “Businesswoman’s Special” to Life

Take a peek behind the curtain as Broadway favorites Laura Bell Bundy and Kara Lindsay dive into rehearsals for Romy & Michele: The Musical. In an exclusive look inside the rehearsal room, Bundy and Lindsay join their castmates to perform “Businesswoman’s Special,” a catchy new number by songwriting duo Gwendolyn Sanford and Brandon Jay—best known for their work on Orange Is the New Black.

The musical adaptation of the cult film Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion begins previews Tuesday, October 14, at Stage 42 (422 W. 42nd St.), where the spirit of friendship and reinvention promises to take center stage.

Stepping into the platform shoes of the beloved best friends are Broadway veterans Laura Bell Bundy (Legally Blonde, The Cottage) as Romy White and Kara Lindsay (Newsies, Wicked) as Michele Weinberger. The production’s ensemble features Jordan Kai Burnett (Heather/Others), DeMarius R. Copes (DJ/Others), Ninako Donville (Lisa/Others), Erica Dorfler (Kelly/Others), Michael Thomas Grant (Sandy/Others), Je'Shaun Jackson (Toby/Others), Pascal Pastrana (Billy/Others), and Lauren Zakrin (Christie/Others).

Tickets for Romy & Michele: The Musical are available at Telecharge.com or by calling 212-239-6200.

The show follows two inseparable friends who, upon receiving an invitation to their 10-year high school reunion, decide to reinvent themselves in an effort to impress their former classmates. What follows is a hilarious and heartfelt road trip of friendship, identity, and bold self-expression, all underscored by an ’80s and ’90s pop-inspired score.

With a book by the film’s original screenwriter, Robin Schiff, music and lyrics by Gwendolyn Sanford and Brandon Jay, music supervision and orchestrations by Keith Harrison Dworkin (Emojiland), choreography by Karla Puno Garcia, and direction by Kristin Hanggi (Rock of Ages), this new production is set to be a high-energy celebration of nostalgia and empowerment.

Produced by Barry Kemp, Stephen Soucy, Peter Schneider, and Laurence Mark, with Showtown Productions serving as Executive Producer, Romy & Michele: The Musical reimagines the cult classic for a new generation—complete with heart, humor, and a healthy dose of glitter.
