“Little Bear Ridge Road” Announces Lottery and Rush Policies as Broadway Performances Begin
Broadway audiences will have a new reason to head to the Booth Theatre tomorrow evening as Little Bear Ridge Road, the new play by acclaimed playwright Samuel D. Hunter, begins its 19-week engagement. The production, directed by Joe Mantello and starring Laurie Metcalf and Micah Stock, officially opens on October 30.
Ahead of its first preview, producers Scott Rudin and Barry Diller have announced digital lottery and rush ticket policies to make the show more accessible to theatergoers.
Fans can enter the digital lottery beginning at 12 a.m. the day before each performance through rush.telecharge.com. Winners will be drawn at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. the same day, with the opportunity to purchase up to two tickets for $49 each.
A digital rush will also be available beginning at 11 a.m. on the day of each performance, with additional tickets potentially released throughout the day until 30 minutes before curtain. Each purchaser may buy up to two tickets for $49 via the same Telecharge site.
Tickets are also available at www.LittleBearRidgeRoad.com, Telecharge.com, or by phone at 212-239-6200 and 800-447-7400.
From Idaho to Broadway
Following its world premiere at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Little Bear Ridge Road reunites much of the original cast, including John Drea as James and Meighan Gerachis as Paulette. Understudies include Jack Ball, Mary Beth Fisher, and Aubie Merrylees.
The production’s design team features Scott Pask (scenic design), Jessica Pabst (costume design), Heather Gilbert (lighting design), and Mikhail Fiksel (sound design).
Set on the remote outskirts of a small Idaho town, the play centers on a razor-tongued aunt and her estranged nephew who are brought together to sell a crumbling family home. What follows is a tender, darkly comic exploration of love, loneliness, and the fragile threads that bind people together.
Hunter—known for A Case for the Existence of God and The Whale—once again turns his lens toward rural America, crafting what critics have called one of his most emotionally resonant works.
Critical Acclaim
When the play premiered at Steppenwolf, The New York Times’ Elisabeth Vincentelli praised Metcalf’s performance, writing:
“At long last, Laurie Metcalf, a local hero, is back in Samuel D. Hunter’s Little Bear Ridge Road. The actress and her character are so intimately connected that it is impossible to detect any seams.”
The Wall Street Journal’s Charles Isherwood described the play as “Samuel D. Hunter’s funniest,” noting:
“Laurie Metcalf gives a performance of rock-steady truthfulness — you get the sense that if you touched her, you would get an electric shock. She all but rips the roof off the theater.”
