Tony Award-winning “Hadestown” is about to hit refresh.
Producers Mara Isaacs, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold, and Tom Kirdahy announced today that the Broadway smash will welcome an all-new principal cast beginning Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 W 48thStreet). For a show now deep into its seventh year on Broadway, the casting shift reads less like a routine changeover and more like a statement: “Hadestown” is still growing, still evolving, still pulling big talent into its underworld.
The incoming principals include Disney Channel and Broadway standout Joshua Colley as ‘Orpheus,’ television and film star Gary Dourdan as ‘Hades,’ Tony and Grammy Award-winner J. Harrison Ghee as ‘Hermes,’ Grammy Award and 2x Latin Grammy Award-winner Gaby Moreno as ‘Persephone,’ and Broadway breakout star Jordan Tyson as ‘Eurydice.’
Before the new cast arrives, the current principals will take their final bow on Sunday, March 1. The production currently stars Morgan Dudley as ‘Eurydice,’ Kurt Elling as ‘Hermes,’ Allison Russell as ‘Persephone,’ Paulo Szot as ‘Hades,’ and Jack Wolfe as ‘Orpheus.’
They’re joined by Jessie Shelton, Kay Trinidad, and Brit West as the ‘Fates.’ The chorus of ‘Workers’ is played by Emily Afton, Malcolm Armwood, Jeffrey Cornelius, Sydney Parra, and Alex Puette. The cast includes swings Sojourner Brown, Brandon Cameron, Ayla Ciccone-Burton, KC Dela Cruz, Tara Jackson, Max Kumangai, Gregory Treco and Tanner Ray Wilson. Casting is by Whitley Theatrical.
If you’ve somehow missed the phenomenon, “Hadestown” began as Anaïs Mitchell’s indie theater project that toured Vermont, then grew into an acclaimed album—before being transformed for the stage with director Rachel Chavkin into a genre-defying musical that blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz. The story follows two intertwining love stories: young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and King Hades and his wife Persephone. The show’s engine is myth, but its stakes feel contemporary—work and survival, faith and doubt, what people will risk for love, and what power demands in return.
And “Hadestown” isn’t only a Broadway success story anymore. The production is about to begin its third year in the West End (returning to London, six years after its 2018 engagement at the National Theatre). The record-breaking North American tour completed its coast-to-coast three-year run in 2024. Productions have opened globally in Sydney, Melbourne, Amsterdam, and South Korea, with a new Brazil production set to open in summer 2026.
For Broadway audiences, the immediate headline is the new cast—and it’s a lineup built to draw different fan bases into the same room.
Joshua Colley, set to play ‘Orpheus,’ has been moving between screen and stage with ease. Most recently, he starred as young ‘Captain Hook’ in Disney’s “Descendants: The Rise Of Red” and appeared in Netflix’s “Dead Boy Detectives.” He toured sold-out arenas on the Descendants/Zombies: Worlds Collide Tour and has a deep Broadway background, including “Newsies” and the 2014 revival of “Les Misérables.”
Gary Dourdan, stepping into ‘Hades,’ brings major television recognition from “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” and a career spanning film, TV, and music, along with extensive philanthropic work, including involvement with The Heart Fund (https://www.theheartfund.eu), Children of Africa (https://childrenofafrica.org/en), and the Global Gift Foundation (http://www.globalgiftfoundationusa.org). He has also supported Akon’s Lighting Africa project (http://akonlightingafrica.com).
J. Harrison Ghee joins as ‘Hermes’ with a Broadway résumé that blends range and presence, including their Tony-winning turn in “Some Like It Hot,” plus roles in “Kinky Boots,” “Mrs. Doubtfire,” “Chicago,” and screen work on “Accused” and “Raising Dion.”
Gaby Moreno, taking on ‘Persephone,’ arrives with Grammy and Latin Grammy firepower, plus an expanding footprint across film and television music. Her recent work includes her 2024 Grammy win for “X Mí (Vol. 1)” and a 2024 album release, “Dusk.” She has also written and performed for screen projects and live television appearances, widening the show’s musical conversation in a way that feels perfectly matched to “Hadestown.”
And Jordan Tyson, set as ‘Eurydice,’ continues a breakout run that includes Broadway credits “Gypsy” and “The Notebook,” with a debut EP, sinking/flying, slated for March 2026.
