'Cats: The Jellicle Bal'l Extends Run Before Opening Night - Details in the story

“Cats: The Jellicle Ball” has not yet officially opened on Broadway, but it is already extending its run. After strong sales during previews, the production has released a new block of tickets through Sept. 6. It is scheduled to open April 7 at the Broadhurst Theater on West 44th Street. Tickets are available via Telecharge, by phone, or at the box office.


The production uses Andrew Lloyd Webber’s score and T. S. Eliot’s “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats,” but frames them through New York City ballroom culture. It is directed by the Obie Award winners Zhailon Levingston and Bill Rauch, with choreography by Omari Wiles, of the House of NiNa Oricci, and Arturo Lyons, of the House of Miyake-Mugler.

The cast combines Broadway veterans and ballroom figures include:




André De Shields plays Old Deuteronomy. The company also includes Ken Ard (DJ Griddlebone), Sydney James Harcourt (Rum Tum Tugger), Leiomy (Macavity), Robert “Silk” Mason (Magical Mister Mistoffelees), “Tempress” Chasity Moore (Grizabella), Junior LaBeija (Gus), and an ensemble that features Kya Azeen, Bryson Battle, Baby Byrne, Dava Huesca, Dudney Joseph Jr., Xavier Reyes, Nora Schell, Bebe Nicole Simpson, Emma Sofia, Garnet Williams, and Teddy Wilson Jr.


The show arrives at the Broadhurst after a 2024 run at the Perelman Performing Arts Center, where it was extended three times and received multiple honors, including Outer Critics Circle, Obie, Dorian Theater, and Hewes awards, as well as a New York Drama Critics’ Circle citation.


The creative team includes Rachel Hauck (sets), Qween Jean (costumes), Adam Honoré (lighting), and Kai Harada (sound), along with Brittany Bland (projections), Nikiya Mathis (hair and wigs), Rania Zohny (makeup), Josephine Kearns (dramaturg and gender consultant), and Paul Kieve (magic). William Waldrop is the music supervisor and music director, Doug Schadt is the music producer, and Trevor Holder is credited for beats. Casting is by Victor Vazquez and Sujotta R. Pace of X Casting. Ann James is listed as a sensitivity specialist, and Cody Renard Richard is the production stage manager.


The lead producers are Michael Harrison, for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals, and Mike Bosner, in arrangement with LW Entertainment. 


Co-producers include Cynthia Erivo, John Legend, and Mike Jackson’s Get Lifted Film Co., LaChanze, Jeremy Pope, Law Roach, Lena Waithe, the Shubert Organization, Theatre Producers of Color, and others.


Performances of “Cats: The Jellicle Ball” are currently on sale through Sept. 6 at the Broadhurst.
