Michael James Scott Joins Julie Benko, Bonnie Milligan, and Christopher Sieber for “Guys and Dolls in Concert” in Aspen
Broadway is sending a little extra luck to Aspen this July.
Michael James Scott, best known for his record-breaking Broadway run as the Genie in Disney’s Aladdin, will join Julie Benko, Bonnie Milligan, Christopher Sieber, and Ryan Vasquez in Guys and Dolls in Concert, the seventh annual co-production from Theatre Aspen and the Aspen Music Festival and School.
Scott will play Nicely-Nicely Johnson, a role that demands charm, comic timing, and the kind of voice that can make “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat” feel less like a song and more like a full civic event. He joins Benko as Sarah Brown, Tony Award winner Milligan as Miss Adelaide, Tony nominee Sieber as Nathan Detroit, and Vasquez as Sky Masterson.
Directed by Tony Award nominee Jeff Calhoun and conducted by Andy Einhorn, Guys and Dolls in Concert will be presented with a full orchestra on Monday, July 13, and Tuesday, July 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Michael Klein Music Tent.
Frank Loesser’s classic musical, with a book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, remains one of Broadway’s great comic machines: gamblers, showgirls, missionaries, midnight bets, and New York romance conducted at the speed of a con. Based on the stories and characters of Damon Runyon, Guys and Dolls gives audiences a city where everyone is hustling, everyone is negotiating, and, somehow, love still manages to win the hand.
The Aspen presentation continues a partnership between Theatre Aspen and the Aspen Music Festival and School that began in 2019 with South Pacific and has since brought concert versions of The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, and My Fair Lady to local audiences.
Tickets are on sale now through the Aspen Music Festival and School box office:
