The Muslim House Returns to Tribeca Film Festival June 11, Featuring Conversation with Filmmaker Mira Nair and Former NPR Producer Bilal Qureshi

Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Mira Nair joins essayist and broadcaster Bilal Qureshi for an intimate conversation on storytelling, representation and narrative power.

The Muslim House, a cultural hub founded and presented by the MPAC Hollywood Bureau, will return during the Tribeca Film Festival on Thursday, June 11, bringing together American Muslim storytellers, filmmakers, comedians, cultural leaders and allies for a full day of conversation, community and creative exchange.

Held at The Impact Lounge at the Soho Grand Hotel in New York City, the  gathering continues The Muslim House’s growing presence at major film festivals, including Sundance, SXSW and Tribeca. Presented with support from the Doris Duke Foundation, the event is designed as a space where Muslim artists and allies can learn, collaborate and build cultural power within the entertainment industry.

A featured highlight of the day will be a fireside chat with acclaimed filmmaker Mira Nair and essayist, broadcaster and former NPR “All Things Considered” producer Bilal Qureshi at 11:30 a.m. ET. The conversation will explore Nair’s extraordinary body of work, from Mississippi Masala to Amri, her forthcoming biopic on pioneering Hungarian-Indian painter Amrita Sher-Gil.

The discussion will trace the themes that have shaped Nair’s filmmaking career, including the power of storytelling, the responsibility of representation and the importance of communities protecting the integrity of their own narratives.

The day’s programming also includes opening remarks from MPAC President Salam Al-Marayati, Doris Duke Foundation Chief Program Officer Maurine Knighton and MPAC Hollywood Bureau Senior Vice President Sue Obeidi; an independent filmmaking panel, “The Festival Path: Bringing a Film to the Stage”; a comedy showcase titled “Comedy As the Great Equalizer”; a watch party curated by the Islamic Scholarship Fund; and an evening fireside chat with Habiba Nosheen and Mo Naqvi.
