A League of Their Own - At Tribeca Films - Here's What Happened

Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television held their World Premiere of Prime Video’s highly anticipated series, A League of Their Own, at the Tribeca Festival. The first episode of the series was screened to a full house at the SVA Theater in Chelsea. Following the screening, WNYC’s Alison Stewart led a 45-minute in-depth and meaningful conversation with the cast, creatives, and original AAGPBL player Maybelle Blair, which included multiple standing ovations, some tears, and discussion about the importance of this project, both personally and professionally for those involved. The panelists also touched upon their motivations in creating this series, highlights from filming, and what they hope it brings to audiences.

The authenticity of the series and the stories featured meant a lot to Blair, which inspired her to publicly come out for the first time during the panel. Blair was particularly open about her experiences during her time in the league and praised the creative team for their ability to capture the true essence of her experience. Blair opened up about the importance of the representation and truth the series provides; while at the same time endearing attendees with her uplifting spirit and resilience which are reflective of themes highlighted within the series.

A-League of Their Own will premiere all eight episodes exclusively on Prime Video on Friday, August 12 in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. A-League of Their Own evokes the joyful spirit of Penny Marshall's beloved classic while widening the lens to tell the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball.
