Diego Andres Rodriguez Joins Rachel Zegler in Jamie Lloyd’s Bold New Evita at the London Palladium This Summer
Like you need an excuse to travel to London. I don’t. London is awesome but to justify the spend and the time, there’s a new production of “Evita” at the London Palladium this summer.
Diego Andres Rodriguez to Star as ‘Che’ Opposite Rachel Zegler in Jamie Lloyd’s “Evita”
West End premiere begins June 14; press night set for July 1
Rising star Diego Andres Rodriguez has been cast as ‘Che’ in Evita, the landmark musical by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, directed by the acclaimed Jamie Lloyd. Rodriguez will star opposite Golden Globe-winner Rachel Zegler, who takes on the title role of Eva Perón, in a bold new staging set to run at the London Palladium from June 14 through September 6, 2025. The official press night is Tuesday, July 1.
Presented by Michael Harrison for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals and Jamie Lloyd for The Jamie Lloyd Company, this highly anticipated production marks Rodriguez’s West End debut. Full casting and creative team details will be announced in the coming weeks.
“Before he even graduated, Diego made his professional debut as ‘Artie’ in our production of Sunset Blvd. on Broadway, where he also understudied and performed the lead role of Joe Gillis,” said director Jamie Lloyd. “He is an incredible young actor and a fantastic vocalist. We’re so thrilled he will be making his West End debut in Evita.”
Rodriguez shared his excitement about the opportunity: “I’m beyond thrilled to be making my West End debut in Evita this summer at the historic London Palladium! Being directed by Jamie Lloyd again, working with The Jamie Lloyd Company’s incredible team, and playing ‘Che’ opposite Rachel is an opportunity of a lifetime. This is a dream come true!”
As part of the production’s commitment to accessibility, 5,000 tickets will be made available at £25 for under-30s, key workers, and recipients of government benefits. These tickets will be available across all levels of the theatre. Additional details on ticket access will be announced soon.
A Reimagined Classic
With lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Evita remains one of the most iconic musicals in theatre history. Featuring such beloved songs as “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina,” “Oh What a Circus,” and “Another Suitcase in Another Hall,” the show tells the story of Eva Perón’s meteoric rise from poverty to First Lady of Argentina, her enduring influence, and the political complexities she left behind.
Jamie Lloyd, known for his visionary interpretations of classic works, first directed Evita in 2019 at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. His return to the musical at the London Palladium is expected to offer a fresh and electrifying take on the material.
About the Cast and Creative Team
Rachel Zegler, making her West End debut, is known for her roles in West Side Story, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and the upcoming Snow White. She brings both critical acclaim and a powerful voice to the role of Eva Perón.
Diego Andres Rodriguez previously appeared in Sunset Blvd. with The Jamie Lloyd Company, and his breakout performance on Broadway established him as a standout new talent.
Director Jamie Lloyd has helmed award-winning productions on both sides of the Atlantic, including Much Ado About Nothing, Romeo & Juliet, A Doll’s House, and Betrayal. His Sunset Blvd. revival recently swept the Olivier Awards.
The production is being mounted by Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals and The Jamie Lloyd Company, in association with The Really Useful Group.
