This is a master class in comedy.
Period.
End of story. Brilliant.
Inspired by the hit NBC television series, SMASH is now in previews at the Imperial Theatre (249 West 45th Street) and officially opens Thursday, April 10, 2025. Directed by five-time Tony Award® winner Susan Stroman, SMASH delivers all the backstage pandemonium, heartbreak, and high-stakes comedy of making a Broadway musical.
At the center is Bombshell, a musical about Marilyn Monroe, and the wild, hilarious ride to get it to opening night. The score features iconic songs from the TV series, including “Let Me Be Your Star,” plus brand-new numbers by Tony, Emmy®, and Grammy Award® winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. The book is by Rick Elice (Jersey Boys) and Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone), with choreography by Emmy winner and Tony nominee Joshua Bergasse, who also choreographed the original series.
The cast? Broadway royalty. Robyn Hurder, Brooks Ashmanskas, Krysta Rodriguez, Bella Coppola, Jacqueline B. Arnold, Caroline Bowman, John Behlmann, Kristine Nielsen, Casey Garvin, and more.
Creative credits include scenic design by Beowulf Boritt, costumes by Alejo Vietti, lighting by Ken Billington, sound by Brian Ronan, and projections by S Katy Tucker. Music supervision is by Stephen Oremus, with orchestrations by Doug Besterman.
A new block of tickets is now on sale for performances through January 4, 2026. Visit SmashBroadway.com or call Telecharge at 212-239-6200. The original cast recording will be released by Concord Theatricals Recordings.
Produced by Robert Greenblatt, Neil Meron, and Steven Spielberg, SMASH is based on the NBC series created by Theresa Rebeck and produced by Universal Television.
