Lena Waithe moderated the BAM event ahead of the Tomi Adeyemi fantasy adaptation’s Jan. 15, 2027, release.
Paramount Pictures brought the world of Orïsha to Brooklyn on July 27 with an exclusive “Children of Blood and Bone” trailer launch at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
Lena Waithe moderated a conversation with director and co-screenwriter Gina Prince-Bythewood and cast members Thuso Mbedu, Tosin Cole, Lashana Lynch, Zackary Momoh and Regina King.
Based on Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling young-adult novel, the epic fantasy follows Zélie Adebola, played by Mbedu, as she fights to restore the magic violently taken from her people. The West African-inspired story launched Adeyemi’s popular “Legacy of Orïsha” series.
Prince-Bythewood, whose films include “Love & Basketball,” “The Old Guard” and “The Woman King,” co-wrote the screenplay with Adeyemi.
The ensemble cast also includes Damson Idris, Amandla Stenberg, Cynthia Erivo, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Idris Elba and Viola Davis.
